This is a full-time position located at the
State Library in Baton Rouge, LA.
This position is a front-line customer service position and serves in this capacity both inside and outside of the State Library. The incumbent has sole responsibility for the mailroom and serves as the daily courier for the entire library. Daily courier duties include interoffice service between the Library and DCRT, retrieval of mail from the U.S. post office, and going to the bank. The incumbent assists with the maintenance of all library vehicles. The incumbent is also responsible for the maintenance of all library materials on the shelves in the general collection, as well as overseeing the processing and shelving of incoming materials. A valid driver's license and the ability to lift at least 50 pounds are required.

Job Duties:
-
Performs mailroom duties, which include courier services on a daily basis.

Ships and receives mail.
-
Use the mail machine and maintain adequate postage funds.

Routes incoming packages and materials throughout the building, including the Volunteer Louisiana agency.

Responsible for mailroom equipment and maintaining the cleanliness and order of the area.

Responsible for shifting and maintaining the circulating collection containing books and audio-visual materials.

Discharges, sorts, and shelves all the general collection and audio-visual materials that have been returned to the library via mail, courier, book drop, re-shelving, and study areas.

Monitors the collection for damaged items, initiates repair procedures, and notifies the purchasing authority.

Assists in planning and implementing complex book shifting and shelf reading projects, which include planning the layout and allotment of shelving, planning the work, and overseeing staff from Access Services and other sections that may be assigned to work on the projects.

Staff the circulation desk for regularly scheduled and unscheduled shifts.

Assists with miscellaneous duties as requested by the Administration/State Librarian on occasion.

Assists other departments in the library with special projects, including Library Development, the Louisiana Book Festival, and Talking Books and Braille mail-outs.

Appointment Type: This position is being filled as a probational appointment. Current permanent status state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.
