Job Summary
Iberville Parish Government a dedicated and detail-oriented 911 Call Center Operator to join our emergency response team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for handling incoming calls with professionalism and efficiency, providing critical support during emergency situations. This role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to manage multi-line phone systems, and a strong understanding of medical and law enforcement protocols. The Call Taker plays a vital role in ensuring timely and accurate dispatching of emergency services, contributing to community safety and effective crisis management.
Duties
- Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls using multi-line phone systems with professionalism and courtesy.
- Perform phone triage to assess the nature of each call, determine priority levels, and gather essential information using medical terminology and analysis skills.
- Utilize GPS and GIS tools to accurately locate callers and dispatch appropriate services efficiently.
- Provide clear instructions to callers, including first aid guidance when necessary, while maintaining calm and empathetic communication.
- Dispatch law enforcement, medical personnel, or fire services based on call assessments, ensuring rapid response times.
- Enter data accurately into computer systems for record-keeping, transcription, and analysis purposes.
- Manage conflict or difficult callers with conflict management skills while maintaining security protocols.
- Document all call details thoroughly for future reference and reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless communication during high-pressure situations.
Experience
- Prior experience in EMT, law enforcement dispatching, or related emergency response roles is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with GIS, GPS technology, and multi-line phone systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, first aid procedures, and phone triage protocols is advantageous.
- Strong typing skills along with data entry and transcription experience are beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills, including phone etiquette and negotiation abilities, are essential for success in this role.
- Experience in conflict management, security procedures, and analysis skills will enhance performance as a Call Taker. This position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to public safety through effective communication and rapid response coordination.

Pay: $20.55 - $24.74 per hour
