Attorney Supervisor (General Law Unit)
Join the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) Legal Section as an Attorney Supervisor overseeing legal services for the Department’s General Law Unit. This position provides legal counsel and leadership on matters affecting DOTD programs statewide, including contracts, administrative law, policy development, and litigation support.
The selected candidate will supervise attorneys and legal support staff while providing legal guidance to DOTD leadership and program areas. Job Duties:
As an Attorney Supervisor in the DOTD Legal Section, you may:
Supervise and direct the work of attorneys, contract counsel, paralegals, and administrative staff within the General Law Unit.
Assign, review, and approve legal work including contracts, legal opinions, negotiations, and administrative matters.
Provide legal advice and consultation to DOTD personnel on matters including contracts, claims, administrative rulemaking, and program operations.
Assist with the development and coordination of DOTD’s annual legislative package and monitor legislation impacting the Department.
Review and manage professional service contracts for outside attorneys and litigation support professionals.
Oversee and monitor legal matters assigned to the General Law Unit to ensure timely and effective resolution.
Provide guidance to trial attorneys in the preparation and litigation of cases and administrative hearings.
Coordinate with departmental leadership and external stakeholders regarding legal matters affecting DOTD programs.
Position-Specific Details
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) which is the starting salary approved for this job classification.
Additional compensation may be considered for applicants who possess extraordinary job-related qualifications or credentials in accordance with State Civil Service Rule 6.5(g) and DOTD policy. Any such consideration is subject to approval and applicable pay limitations.
