SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) is a model that helps individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness who have a serious mental illness, medical impairment, and/or a co-occurring substance use disorder apply for Social Security disability benefits.
We are seeking a compassionate and professional individual to join our team and provide essential support to individuals and families in our District. Minimum Qualifications
Three years of social services experience; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
A bachelor's degree.
Experience Substitution:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
Necessary Special Requirement:
Positions that provide addictive disorder counseling or prevention services will require certification or eligibility for certification issued by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA), or its successor.

Job Duties and Other Information
- Work with referral sources and community partners to identify applicants through team meetings, outreach, and referrals.
- Complete interviews with individuals to gather information to complete Supplemental Security Income/Social Security Disability Insurance (SSI/SSDI) applications.
- Gather medical records and other information to complete SSI/SSDI applications.
- Coordinate case management services with partners and help with providing case management services to individuals when needed.
- Coordinate visits to medical doctors, psychiatrists, and other specialists to obtain evidence for the application
- Accompany individuals to appointments at the Social Security Administration .
- Write Medical Summary Reports for individual applications.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational or Job Appointment.
Location: Capital Area Human Services District's Baton Rouge Behavioral Health (BRBH).
Work Schedule: 9 hours per day Monday - Thursday, 4 hours on Friday
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Social Counselor 1, 2, 3, or 4-A depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s)
Compensation:
- The maximum salary for the Social Service Counselor 4-A is $78,790.00 annually.

not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
