Louisiana State University Shreveport invites applications for the position of Chief Online Learning Officer (COLO). The COLO serves as the primary institutional leader for online, digital, and technology-enhanced learning. This position provides the vision, strategy, and operational leadership necessary to advance the quality, reach, and impact of LSUS's online enterprise in alignment with the university's mission, strategic plan, and statewide priorities.
The COLO sits at the intersection of curriculum, technology, and pedagogy, providing oversight of online learning operations, instructional design, digital learning technologies, faculty development related to online instruction, and the overall student experience in digital environments. This position collaborates closely with the Chief Information Officer, deans, the Director of Online Learning, and faculty leaders to ensure a cohesive, high-quality, and data infonned approach to digital education at LSUS.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Earned master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in online learning leadership, including supervision of staff and management of institutional or college level digital learning operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design, learning management systems, and academic technology infrastructure.
- Proven ability to collaborate across academic and administrative units to achieve institutional goals.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in education, instructional technology, or a related field.
- Experience developing and implementing online learning strategy at a comprehensive university.
- Knowledge of higher education accreditation, compliance, and quality assurance processes related to online learning.
- Familiarity with faculty development, assessment, and continuous improvement models in digital education.
- Membership and engagement in professional organizations such as UPCEA, EDUCAUSE, or WCET.
Key Responsibilities
Job Duties and Other Information
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for LSUS's online learning enterprise, ensuring quality, scalability, and alignment with institutional and system-level goals.
- Develop and implement an institutional online learning strategy encompassing digital, hybrid, and technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
- Oversee the integration and governance of instructional technologies, including the Learning Management System (Moodle), IntelliBoard analytics, and related platforms.
- Partner with deans and department chairs to guide the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of online and hybrid courses and programs.
- Lead efforts to expand online student access and suppo1i through innovative course design, learner engagement strategies, and digital student services.
- Supervise and mentor the Director of Online Learning, instructional design teams, and related staff to ensure operational excellence and professional growth.
- Collaborate with the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) to advance faculty development initiatives focused on effective digital pedagogy and quality assurance (e.g., Quality Matters).
- Serve as the primary liaison with external pa1iners, vendors, and professional organizations such as UPCEA, Quality Matters, and WCET.
- Monitor trends and emerging practices in digital education to inform institutional planning and investment.
- Establish and track key performance indicators for online learning effectiveness, growth, and student satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with all SACSCOC and Louisiana Board of Regents policies regarding online education and distance learning.
