Get paid while you train to be a U.S. Coast Guard-certified Tank Barge - PIC. PSC's Tankering Career Academy training program will put you on the fast track to an in-demand career in the booming petrochemical industry.
Our Tank Barge - PIC training program takes only four months and includes a combination of classroom instruction and one-on-one field training taught by some of the very best Tank Barge - PICs in the industry. We are now accepting applications for our next training class which begins on October 27, 2025 in New Orleans, LA.
Upon successful completion and graduation from the Tankering Career Academy training program and receipt of the Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) from the Coast Guard, the Tank Barge - PIC trainee will be eligible for continued employment with PSC Group as a licensed Tank Barge - PIC with pay increase to $35.00 per hour. Job Duties of a Tank Barge - PIC
- The Tank Barge - PIC's role is critical to our nation’s petroleum and chemical shipping industry.
- The Tank Barge - PIC serves as the Person-in-Charge (PIC) of critical operations, with responsibility for protecting the environment by ensuring the safe transfer of petrochemicals to barges.
- Tank Barge - PIC must be certified by the U.S. Coast Guard.
- There are two types of Tank Barge - PIC: vessel Tank Barge - PIC and shore Tank Barge - PIC.
- PSC employs shore Tank Barge - PIC who live at home and travel to various work sites.
While training full-time during the four-month Tankering Career Academy program, Tank Barge - PIC trainees:
- Are paid $20 per hour plus mileage reimbursement for travel to and from field training locations;
- Are paid time-and-a-half for all instruction hours in excess of 40 hours per week;

Minimum Requirements:
- 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand English clearly
- Valid driver’s license
- No DUIs/DWIs in the past three years
- Pass a drug screen and physical
- Have or be qualified to receive a valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
- Eligible to receive a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) upon completion of the on-the-job training program
