Join the mission to protect the integrity of Louisiana’s public assistance programs as a Fraud Investigator with the Department of Children and Family Services’ Fraud and Recovery Unit. In this dynamic role, you will conduct investigations into suspected fraud, waste, and abuse across programs such as SNAP and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, helping ensure benefits reach those who truly need them. You’ll analyze cases, uncover discrepancies, collaborate with internal and external partners, and support the recovery of improperly issued funds. This position plays a vital role in safeguarding public resources, supporting accountability, and strengthening trust in critical assistance programs. Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in social services; OR
Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in social services; OR
A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in social services; OR
A bachelor’s degree in social work or a master's degree in a social services field or education.
Experience Substitution
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties:
Job Duties and Other Information
- Conducts complex investigations involving suspected employee misconduct and violations of agency, departmental, and Civil Service policies, including theft, payroll fraud, computer fraud, forgery, and related offenses.
- Investigates complex cases involving the fraudulent procurement of public assistance benefits or services, including multi-state or concurrent certification and recipient fraud.
- Evaluates administrative and programmatic procedures within parish, regional, and state offices to identify operational deficiencies that may contribute to fraud, waste, or abuse.
- Collaborates with agency leadership, prosecutors, and state and federal law enforcement partners to coordinate investigative activities and secure evidence.
- Utilizes investigative tools and data systems, including agency databases, business intelligence platforms, and online resources, to research records and develop investigative leads.
- Conducts surveillance, interviews witnesses, interrogates suspects, and obtains affidavits, warrants, and court orders for protected records through appropriate legal channels.
- Prepares detailed investigative reports and financial loss analyses to support disciplinary actions, criminal prosecutions, civil litigation, and administrative sanctions.
- Maintains accurate investigative documentation and case activity within the unit’s Case Management Information System.
- Serves as the agency’s liaison and primary witness in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings, including fraud hearings, Civil Service appeals, and unemployment compensation cases.
- May serve as lead investigator on complex cases or special projects, providing functional guidance, resolving technical issues, and advising supervisors on investigative progress and outcomes.

Compensation:
This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates (SER) for the job titles listed below, as well as a Premium Pay of up to $2.00/hr for hours worked based on longevity for Fraud Investigator 1 and Fraud Investigator 2.
Fraud Investigator 1 - $21.27 hr / $1701.60 bi-weekly
Fraud Investigator 2 - $22.76 hr / $1,820.80 bi-weekly
