This is a full-time position located at the
State Museum in New Orleans, LA.
The Louisiana State Museum (LSM) is a complex of national landmarks housing thousands of artifacts and work reflecting Louisiana's legacy of historic events and cultural diversity.
This position is responsible for overseeing and assisting with the exhibitions at the state museum locations in New Orleans.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in museum studies, a humanities field, historic preservation, or fine arts; OR
A bachelor’s degree in forestry, wildlife or natural resource management, botany, biology, or ecology.

Job Duties and Other Information
- Lead exhibition designer and graphic designer.
- Consults with the appropriate museum staff and/or guest curators/historians/artists/scholars to create original concepts and design ideas for temporary and/or permanent exhibits using drawings, schematics, graphic design, etc. to produce visually compelling, informative, engaging, innovative, relevant and inclusive methods for visitors to discover and connect with history, art, culture, and corresponding LSM artifacts and exhibitions.
- Installs and de-installs museum exhibitions, resolving problems of design and installation; delivers and assists in the installation of exhibits at all nine museum locations.
- Supervises assistant graphics and exhibition WAE employees.
- Is familiar and adept at utilizing all appropriate museum policies, forms, etc. to effectively and efficiently accomplish tasks and goals.
- Helps maintain exhibits work areas by making sure department is clean and functional.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position is being filled as a probational appointment. Current permanent status state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Work Schedule: This position is a full-time position that reports in-office at the State Museum located in New Orleans. Work on weekends, overtime, and travel may be required of this position.
Location: This is a full-time position located at the State Museum locations in New Orleans.
Career Progression: This position is in a Career Progression Group to a Curator 3. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Curator 1, 2, or 3 based on the qualifications of the selected applicant.
